The 1st Tactile Force Testing Experience was held!
11/15/24

The 2024 B Lab Neurodiversity Project launched the Tactile Force Testing Project with Professor Kota Minamisawa, Graduate School of Media Design, Keio University, Professor Yoshihiro Tanaka, Nagoya Institute of Technology, and NTT Docomo Inc. On October 4 (Fri.), we held the first Tactile Force Testing Experience inviting people with sensory-related problems and those interested in sensory hypersensitivity.
What is a palpability test?
Tactile testing is a test to measure the sensitivity of the sense of touch. The purpose of this test is to measure tactile acuity and to understand individual tactile characteristics. Just as vision testing evaluates visual conditions, tactile testing is a means of assessing tactile conditions. Test results determine the possibility of tactile hypersensitivity or tactile insensitivity. Early detection of tactile characteristics and appropriate measures tailored to individual needs can provide effective support in educational settings and the workplace, improving the quality of daily life.

Flow of Experience
know
- Introduction to tactile testing: Explains that the test measures the sense of touch like an acuity test and how the test was performed.
- Workshop Flow: Specifics on what steps participants took to take the tactile test and how they learned their tactile characteristics based on the results.
Why tactile testing?
What is tactile force?
Participants’ reactions and impressions
- Points of Awareness: Participants’ impressions of the differences in tactile sensations they felt, what they learned from the test, and how their awareness of tactile sensations changed in their daily lives.
- Participant testimonials: Specific comments and memorable impressions convey moments of awareness of the importance of tactile sensations.
Results of the event and future possibilities
- Increased knowledge and awareness: better understanding of individual differences in tactile sensation, and how this might be useful in the participants’ lives.
- Future Prospects: Touch on the possibility of support based on tactile measurements and the creation of tactile-friendly environments.
